Where to enjoy a good dram in Birmingham (UK) ?

I usually tend to introduce you to a selection of at least 2 whisky spots in this – now recurrent – column of “Where to enjoy a good dram in…”, but as I only spent 2 days in Birmingham (including one day away in the Cotswolds), I didn’t visit much whisky hotspots in the second largest English city. However, I did push the doors of one good old pub, which totally fitted the bill and even won the right to possess its own article. This wonderful place is called :
The Wellington
Who needs food when you can have whisky ? Well, I should precise that this British-styled pub seems to be more popular for its great beer selection but could really compete with quite a few whisky bars when it comes to uisge beatha ! Located just off New Street (which was my main reference point in Birmingham, as a total newbie to the city !), I must admit I could have easily missed it if not previously recommended by a local whisky aficionado (Talking about Joe Ellis here, the amazing individual behind  the Whisky Wednesday YouTube channel). If you’re planning – like I was – to grab some dinner while sipping your dram (or beer), be advised that they are not serving food but run a kind of “BYOF” (Bring Your Own Food) policy, you can even ask the staff for nearby take-away menus to chose from and be delivered right at the pub !
Quality products, friendly and knowledgeable staff, local liquid discoveries, first class service as well as a welcoming and traditional atmosphere made me feel like I definitely pushed the right doors in Birmingham !

The English public house at its best is about conviviality in the company of similarly inclined folk along with a few ales, and the Wellington is an outstanding example of this rich mixture”
