Not an April fool today (would be too obvious…) but my monthly spirited wishlist ! It was actually quite hard to come up with this shortlist this month, so many great products that I’m craving to count on my whisky shelves, but my reasonable side fought a bloody battle against its devil consumer counterpart and I finally pulled myself together and managed to stick to 5 nectars under £70. Here they are :
1. English Whisky Co. Chapter 16 – Peated Sherry Cask (70cl – 46%)
The first bottling of peated whisky aged in sherry casks from Norfolk’s St George’s Distillery. A very limited release of 300 bottles, this has classic sherry-cask notes of chocolate and dried fruit, and light smoke.
Age : 6 years old – Bottled in September 2014
2. Tomatin Cu Bocan – Virgin Oak (70cl – 46%)
The second in a trilogy showcasing the casks that make up Cù Bòcan, this has been fully matured in virgin oak casks. Named after the mythical hellhound that has stalked the village of Tomatin for centuries, this is bursting with sweet spice flavours.
3. Kornog Taouarc’h Pempved 14 BC – Peated (70cl – 46%)
A peated whisky from Breton, Kornog Taouarc’h Pempved 14 BC is a single-cask bottling, aged in a bourbon cask and bottled in 2014.
4. Whistlepig 10 Year Old – Rye Whiskey (75cl – 50%)
A fantastic 10-year-old whisky from the folks at WhistlePig. They’ve chosen some of the best rye whisky produced at Alberta Distillers in Canada and bottled it at their farm in Vermont – this goes to show that former Maker’s Mark distiller Dave Pickerell certainly knows good whiskey.
5. Bowmore 17 Year Old – White Sands (70cl – 43%)
Bowmore White Sands was originally released for the travel retail market in 2014. Aged for 17 years in ex-bourbon casks, this shows an excellent balance between smoke, ripe fruit and sweet toffee.
