The Whisky Affair : a single malt fuelled novel

thewhiskylady - 2015-04-25

The Whisky Affair is not your usual whisky book : it’s not going to provide you with a complete A-Z guide of all the Scottish/Irish/Japanese/WhateverWhiskyProducingCountry distilleries nor will it tell you all about the great whisky history through dates, facts & figures. The Whisky Affair is more of an entertaining easy-to-read spirited novel immersing its reader in a world of love, murder, Machiavellian plots and… Whisky ! Michael J. Gill, the author, is distilling his whisky-related stories all along his book alongside some rather technical facts. For instance, he can be mentioning a light topic such as Towser, the legendary distillery cat of Glenturret and a few pages later, open a serious dialog about chemistry such as PPM values in whisky.

Page after page and until the very end, Michael’s novel has allowed me to travel with his characters, whether it was on the scenic Isle of Bute (which now stands at a high rank on my travel bucket list), to a Yorkshire countryside village or to famous buzzing cities such as Las Vegas and Toronto.  Beware though, reading this book will make you both thirsty and hungry, so make sure to pour yourself a wee dram along with some hearty food before you start reading !

“The Whisky Affair” – Book Description

“The Isle of Bute distillery was fast becoming one of the most popular in the world, Thanks in part to the new pun on all the social media networks – “What a Beaut”.

Raymond Armstrong, is enjoying his retirement when he hears of the news. Gordon Reid, the owner of Bute distillery is a lifelong friend. Raymond immediately visits the island to join his best friend in the success of the distillery. On his return to Yorkshire, he receives devastating news! Little did he know that this news would draw him into a conspiracy, an attempt to take over the distillery by a casino company in Las Vegas who will stop at nothing to take control, including murder!

The mysterious events that occur, reawakens his instincts and training as a former member of a special M16 unit, and propels him back into the world of espionage and intrigue. Raymond must use all of his skills to stop the people behind this hostile take-over attempt, and protect the Reid family at all costs!!”

About the author

Michael has spent most of his career working in the beer, wine and whisky industry. This is Michael’s second novel after spending a decade writing many articles and a non-fiction book on whisky. Born in Yorkshire, England, Michael moved to North America in the late eighties. He has resided and worked the last two decades in the USA and Canada where he’s been on a roller coaster ride of life adventures. He acknowledges the North American part of the world helped establish him as a public speaker, something he would have dreaded in his younger days living in England. His children and other extended family members live in England where he makes frequent trips to visit his two sons and five grandchildren. His wife Debra was born in Nova Scotia where they live today with their three cats. Many events inspired Michael to write The Whisky Affair and he is already working on his third novel – in between promoting fine wine and single malt whisky, watching American football and trying to improve his golf game.”
