My March Whisky Wishlist

thewhiskylady - 2016-03-01

February is finally over (I don’t know you, but I always see February as the most depressive month of the year – hopefully it “only” counts 29 days – this calendar guy must have had the same feeling as me…) and brought with him a handful of appealing new releases! Here’s therefore my monthly selection for you (as usual, click on titles for direct links to shop) !

Ailsa Bay

Ailsa Bay

Single malt from Ailsa Craig, founded in 2007 with a capacity of 12,000,000 litres on the same site as Girvan. Several styles of malt whisky are produced there, from sweet and light to heavier and more sulphury (two stills have steel condenser rather than copper) as well as peated styles up to 50ppm.

Bruichladdich Octomore 7.4 Virgin Oak

Octomore 2008 Edition 7.4 / 7 Year Old

An early 2016 release of Bruichladdich’s extremely peaty Octomore series. Octomore 07.4 has endured quite an interesting maturation – 25% of it was aged entirely in virgin oak casks, while 75% of it spent 3 years in first fill bourbon casks, followed by 2 years in virgin oak casks and then 2 more years in first fill bourbon casks.

Orbis Aged World Whiskey

Orbis Aged World Whiskey

Orbis is a global blended whiskey (yep, they just went with the ‘e’ after the first guy who thought about it had his head explode), containing aged whiskies from the heavyweight countries of Scotland, Ireland, Japan, America and Canada! Originally a travel retail exclusive.

Oban Little Bay

Oban Little Bay

Previously part of their travel retail offering, Oban’s Little Bay has graduated to the core range as a 70cl bottling. Master Blenders Dr. Matthew Crow and Dr. Craig Wilson use whisky matured in refill American oak hogsheads, European oak Sherry casks and refill casks with new ends for this expression before allowing the resultant single malt whisky to marry in small oak casks.
