“Whisky history was made on the 14th of November when the first single malt whisky in over 150 years was distilled and casked at Eden Mill Distillery near St Andrews.
The distillery and brewery is part of a site which was originally a distillery owned by the legendary Haig family from 1810 until 1869.
The Eden Brewery began brewing in 2012 on the site and following winning several awards for its creative brews which it crafts with a sustainable ethos, it has recently expanded successfully introducing its beers in markets as far afield as China and Canada.
“We have recently produced innovative small batch spirits such as the hugely popular limited edition Hop.Gin, under the Eden.Mill Distillery name, and it has now gone on to become Scotland’s first single site Whisky Distillery and Craft Brewery combined.
We are seeking to make exciting and innovative single malt whisky using a mix of traditional methods and modern understanding of areas such as wood and maturation management. We have a highly skilled and well qualified team with a great mix of youth and experience and the common denominator of passion for making great single malt whisky.
We also aim to share this passion with our customers wherever possible by providing a more intimate and experiential range of tours and offerings when people come to visit ‘The Mill’.”
We are proud of already being rated top tourist activity in St. Andrews area with our brewery and we hope to build on this with the distillery as we attempt to demystify the art of making great single malt and gin.
Eden Mill single malt will be unique and rare. The overall production will be just 2000 litres of Whisky per week. A very limited number of single casks will be available for Whisky enthusiasts to purchase however this will be less than 15 % of the total production. A small batch of the first new make spirit is being set aside for members of an exclusive Eden Mill St Andrews 1st cask club which will have a share in the 1st cask produced and rights to buy future casks.”
