If you’re an avid TWL reader, you must know I already reviewed Knappogue’s 12-year-old expression around here a couple of weeks ago. Let’s now have a closer look at his older brother !

Knappogue Castle 14 years old is the result of a marriage of 14 year old single malts aged in two types of wood: bourbon barrels and Oloroso sherry casks. It is non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV.

DID YOU KNOW THAT… Knappogue Castle Whiskey is named for the castle which inspired it, but the word itself has a meaning of its own. Knappogue (pronounced Nah’ Pogue) translates to hill of the kiss in Gaelic.

Nose: Malty, creamy and fruity with sweet pastry notes of coconut flan, cinammon rolls, honey-glazed baked apples and banana bread. Also some yummy brown sugar, creamy vanilla, apricot marmelade and buttered toasts… A perfect breakfast dram ! 🙂

Palate: Nicely balanced and definitely richer than his 12-year-old cousin. Pot still spices start kicking in after a few seconds in the mouth while the golden liquid brings more exotic fruits, nuts, pepper, cloves and something slightly drier towards the end.

Finish: lingering with wood spices and toasted bread.
