Dry or not, one sure thing, January as finally come to an end and I couldn’t be happier. C’mon, we all know January is the most depressing month of the year, when you realise you won’t be able to keep your good new year resolutions for more than 3 days (sorry you lost your money on this 12-month gym membership btw) & go spend your monthly salary in sales hoping for warmer days (again, sorry your lost your money on those £48228 wedges that won’t even be trendy anymore when the sun comes back). But let’s now embrace this new month as a fresh start and what best way than having a look at those recently-released whiskies I’m craving to add to my collection!
The fifth release in Penderyn’s Icons of Wales series honours opera singer Bryn Terfel, best known for playing Shakespeare’s Falstaff. Covered in a red velvet-style wrap, this is a fruity and spicy whisky with notes of apple, vanilla, banana and cream soda.
That Boutique-y Whisky Company – Secret Distillery #2
Goodness gracious, it’s a new secret single malt from That Boutique-y Whisky Company and what a label! What the hell are these terrifying swan/human hybrid-beings?! If we told you that there are sixteen of them and that they’re 24 foot tall, this awesome 21 year old single malt might start to make a little more sense, however…
This is a release of 420 bottles.
A 25 year old single malt Scotch whisky from the Springbank distillery, located in Scotland’s Campbeltown region. They mature this expression in Sherry and bourbon casks, before allowing it to marry in refill Port casks.
The 2017 edition was a release of 900 bottles.
Glenmorangie Bacalta, which is Scots Gaelic for ‘baked’, is the eighth release in the Private Edition collection and follows the launch of Glenmorangie Milsean in January last year.
The inspiration for the new limited edition bottling first began more than 20 years ago, with the release of Glenmorangie Madeira Finish, the world’s first whisky extra matured in Madeira casks.
To develop the Madeira-finished concept, Dr Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s director of distilling and whisky creation drew on the distillery’s work in cask management.
American oak casks were specially created and heavily toasted, before being seasoned by Malmsey wine – said to be the sweetest and most prized of the Madeira wines. The casks then lay to ‘bake’ in the heat of Madeira’s sun. (read more)
Bladnoch was founded in 1817 by Thomas McClelland, and remained in the family’s hands until 1930 when the Belfast distilling company acquired it. The distillery had several owners and was once distilling as part of Bell’s then it ceased production for many years. In 2015, Australian businessman David Prior purchased it and set to revive the distillery with master distiller and blender Ian MacMillan, former Burn Stewart Master Blender.
One of the 3 expressions from the recent rebranding, Bladnoch Adela, is a rich, noble single malt which is ultra smooth. Award winning Master Distiller Ian MacMillan has hand selected every cask to bring together a full bodied expression. Matured in Oloroso Sherry barrels for 15 years.
This 15 year old single malt has been released only for the Australian market and is a limited release. (read more)
