Auction findings: 5 noticeable lots under the whisky hammer

thewhiskylady - 2016-07-07

Full Disclaimer: This isn’t a secret for most of you, I have now been working as a whisky auctioneer for Catawiki since a few months, but no, this is not a sponsored article at all. I actually just thought that (and also because I received messages asking me for more information about this activity), after coming through a great amount of very nice/rare/old/tasty/noticeable bottles every week through my mission for the online auction platform, I could share some of those findings with you. I know many of those bottles are not even close to affordable for a lot of people (including me 😀) but please let us dream and let me share with you a bit of what my everyday routine is made of!

Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 15 years old

auctionf3

53.5% ABV. A younger version of the famous 20-year-old Pappy Van Winkle’ Family Reserve, this bourbon was crafted according to  the family’s well-known wheated recipe. The smooth, oak flavor blends well with the barrel proof.

Peking Opera Limited Edition – The Whisky Agency

auctionf5

This edition comes in 2 bottles. The left shows the virtuous and elite qing-yi, whilst the right presents the vivacious and coquettish hua-dan.

The Qing-Yi bottle was distilled in Burnside distillery, an old distillery located in Speyside while The Hua-Dan bottle is a fusion of two single malts: a 35 years old sherry cask strength blended with an aged sherry cask above 40 years old.

Bruichladdich 1967 – Signatory

auctionf2

A beautiful release of single cask Bruichladdich by Signatory. Distilled in January 1967 and matured in a sherry butt for 32 years before being bottled in November 1999. 43.3% ABV and one of only 215 bottles.

St Magdalene 32 years old – Cadenhead’s

auctionf1

One of my personal favourites from this week’ Exclusive Whisky Auction: an impressive release from William Cadenhead, Scotland’s oldest independent bottler. This 32 year old single malt from silent distillery St. Magdalene (Linlithgow) was distilled in 1982 and bottled in January 2015, from a single cask and with an out turn of only 282 bottles. Bottled at 58.1% ABV.
