Probably one of my last Glasgow-focused articles as I’m now moving to Edinburgh for a month (be prepared!), but I was more than happy to finally be able to visit the only urban whisky distillery in Scotland [for now… You may all have heard of The Clydeside & Holyrood distilleries’ plans by now… And if you haven’t, we’ll talk more about that later ;)], The Glasgow Distillery Company – located just a few miles away from the very center of Scotland’s largest city.

Unfortunately, the distillery isn’t open to the public yet, but keep an eye on it if you plan a Scottish trip, as they should be organising appointment-only tours at some point in the not-so-far future. Being a whisky blogger has some perks and can sometimes open some hidden doors, so I couldn’t say no when Liam Hughes, the inspiring founder behind The Glasgow Distillery Co. project, invited me over to have a look around and sample some of their current, future and still-maturing products. #SorryNotSorry

Drawing on the pioneering spirit of Scotland’s first licensed distillers, The Glasgow Distillery Company takes its name from one of Glasgow’s original distilleries. Founded at Dundashill in 1770, the distillery was known as The Glasgow Distillery and remained active until the beginning of the 20th Century.

The Glasgow Distillery Company is therefore bringing back to life the tradition of metropolitan small-batch craft distillation with their own Glasgow-born new make spirit. Expect the first single malt release for 2018 (and from what I’ve tasted, from new make spirits to several-months old juices… what’s to come is worth the wait!). I don’t want to disclose too much about their current experiments, but if you have a closer look at the below pictures, I’m sure you won’t miss the Port & Amontillado casks for instance…

As far as their gin is concerned (did I forget to mention their already famous Makar gin? My bad!), there are also some good news to come (VERY soon), so watch this space!

Now, what do you think is the difference between their white & black casks? Come on, that’s easy…
