As I was browsing through the web and visiting my usual “food & drink” information websites (my morning routine – just after grabbing a bowl of low-fat cereals – since my college teachers forced me to “keep myself informed at all times” by sadistically preparing tricky writing tests about the latest news in ENTER THE NAME OF A RANDOM REMOTE TRIBE HERE), I came accross a pretty good news for the English craft beverage industry, the first-ever market dedicated to drinks is to kick off this Saturday in London !

The Londoner craft brewing and distilling scene has been booming since a few years and the initiative is a great way to show drinks enthusiasts and tourists alike, how innovative are London’s beer/cider/spirits producers. Hackney is also a strategical point to open this market as it has become a kind of craft drinks eldorado those past few years (Five Points, Redchurch, Howling Hops…) !

Here’s what you can read on the brand new Hackney Drinks’ Market website :

“Today in London there are nearly 100 regular food markets but not one regular drinks market. The aim of Hackney Drinks Market is to change this and create a permanent home for London’s drinks producers.

London’s brewing industry is going through a renaissance and there are now more breweries per capita in the UK than any other country in the world. But if you look beyond beer, there are also so many other types of amazing drinks producers appearing around the capital. From ex brewers turning their hands to sodas, to tiny railway arches becoming small batch distilleries. So our ambition is to create a Columbia rd for drinks because we believe London needs one.

The market will run on the first Saturday of each month with around 30 stalls featuring a rolling roster of distillers, brewers and soft drink producers from around London. Drink can be enjoyed on site or taken home. Hot food and bar snacks traders have been selected to compliment the drinks. Bar Snacks will include homemade pork scratchings, Biltong and cheeses. While hot food will draw from bar food from different drinking cultures around the world from traditional British food to experimental US bbq.”

Hackney Drinks Market will be located within the Village Green outside space of Hackney Downs Studios, 17 Amhurst Terrace, London E8 2BT. The space is like a private street connecting Amhurst rd to Hackney Downs Park
