But while on my way to place a pricey order on The Whisky Exchange, I realised I was still a student and would have to chose between eating Chinese noodles for a whole semester or making a reasonable choice between all the wonders I wanted to purchase. I finally went for a nice Highland Park 12 but here was my first selection :

1. Highland Park 18YO (Scotland)

"Highland

“This has to be one of the most consistently excellent malt whiskies of the past 10 years. Showered with awards and praise from all quarters, it was named as ‘Best Spirit in the World’ by F Paul Pacult of the Spirit Journal in 2005. Unfailingly excellent, especially after a good meal. Pacult wrote: ‘After 25 years’ experience, it fits my profile of what makes a perfect whisky, which is to say it’s totally in harmony, there are no rough edges and everything is melded together brilliantly”

2. Kavalan Solist Bourbon Cask (Taiwan)

"Kavalan

“A perfect showcase for the quality of Kavalan’s Taiwanese made and matured spirit – a single cask bottling from a first-fill bourbon cask. Rich and fruity with lots of woody spice.”

3. Armorik Millésime 2002 (France)

"Armorik

“A single cask 2002 vintage (millésime) release from Armorik, produced at the Warenghem distillery in Brittany. The first 10 year old to be released by the distillery, this was aged in a cask which was previously used for oloroso sherry.

Whisky Bible Awards 2014: 92 Points”

4. Amrut Intermediate Sherry Matured (India)

"Amrut

“A new concept from Amrut. The spirit for Intermediate Sherry Matured starts life in a mix of ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks. It is then transferred to sherry casks for a period before going back into bourbon casks to complete its maturation.”
