The Whisky Exchange unveils Black Friday special bottling

Woop woop, it’s Black Friday and the shopping addict in me is always up for a great deal that day, especially when it comes to whisky! Apparently I was in luck today as iconic whisky retailer The Whisky Exchange decided not to do things the usual way (reducing prices on their website) by releasing a special Black Friday bottling in limited edition ! And guess what? I had the chance to taste if !

By the time you’ll read that all the bottles are probably gone (update: yeap, they are), but hey, you may still be able to find a bottle at auctions at a later date 😉 – Also, as they mentioned “2017 edition” on the label, one could easily guess there are good chances to see a 2018 edition as well, so wake up earlier next year!

The whisky was distilled at a family-owned Speyside distillery. It was aged for 16 years in a single sherry butt before bottling in October 2017 at 54.6% ABV. The cask yielded 582 bottles and the release is exclusive to The Whisky Exchange. It will cost £59.95.

This way to the Black Friday bottling page !

Nose: Deliciously rich and fruity with orchard fruits, dried apricots, sultanas, toffee, brown sugar, rye bread and peppery spices. Definitely a great post-thanksgiving nose if you want my opinion (which you probably want if you’re reading those lines…) !

Palate: Kinda chewy, thick and nicely sherried. Red berry jam on toast, carrot cake, raisins and some nutty hints. This teenage dram really shows an interesting depth of flavour, it’s both gourmet and punchy with candied oranges, Autumn spices, plums in syrup, marzipan and chocolate-covered toffee bonbons.

Finish: more chocolate and pepper.

Overall, and that won’t be a surprise for a Black Friday dram, this 16-year-old sherry bad boy is amazing value for money…
