My June Whisky Wishlist

thewhiskylady - 2016-06-01

Time is seriously flying… I can’t believe we’re almost approaching Summer and I haven’t had time to start watching Outlander new season yet (I feel like I’m talking way too much about TV shows around here lately… )! So, beside trying to get all my work done in due time (and comparing 154878 types of blenders on Amazon so that I’ll have my smoothie breakfasts and summer-vibish snacks right on time before high temperatures start hitting us again), I still found time to publish this monthly wishlist, compiling some highly-attractive expressions!

Ardbeg Dark Cove – Ardbeg Day 2016

Ardbeg Dark Cove / Ardbeg Day 2016

Dark Cove is a limited-edition whisky released on 28 May in honour of Ardbeg Day 2016 – the distillery’s open day as part of the yearly Islay Festival. Matured in a combination of ex-sherry and ex-bourbon casks, this is smoky and spicy with a hint of sweetness.

Compass Box – Enlightenment

Compass Box Enlightenment

In the spirit of Compass Box’s Campaign for Scotch Whisky Transparency comes Enlightenment. This blended malt is made up of 48.2% bright, waxy, apple-y Clynelish (first fill American oak barrel), 36.7% fruity, hebal Glentauchers (first fill American oak barrel), 10.8% perfumed, bright Balblair (first fill American oak barrel) and 4.3% muscular weighty Mortlach (rejuvenated American oak barrel). EU law currently stops them letting us all know how old these constituent parts are, but as Compass Box say, this is a whisky “with which to ponder the world of Scotch not only as it is but also as it could be”

Douglas Laing – The Epicurean

The Epicurean / Douglas Laing

A lowland blended malt from the excellent Douglas Laing that’s “city born and bred” and is personified by the 1930s cheeky chappy and all-round connoisseur on the label!

Deanston 20 years old – Oloroso

Deanston 20 Year Old / Oloroso

Unveiled in late 2015, this is a limited edition expression from the excellent Deanston distillery in the Highland region, matured for 20 years in ex-Oloroso Sherry casks and bottled at cask strength. Loads of chewy raisin and dark-chocolate-coated peanuts notes here – excellent stuff as ever from Deanston.

Langatun Old Bear 2010 – Peated cask proof

Langatun Old Bear 2010 / Peated / Cask Proof

Old Bear is the name for Swiss distillery Langatun’s peated whisky. This triple-distilled malt has been aged in ex-Chateauneuf-du-Pape casks, resulting in a whisky with notes of peat, oak spice and dark fruit
